At Lawley Primary School, chess is more than just a game — it is a key part of our academic and extracurricular program, helping learners develop critical thinking, concentration, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills.
Chess is offered during Term 1 and Term 2, and learners participate at various competitive levels, starting from school-based competitions and progressing through Cluster, District, and Provincial stages, depending on performance.
Our players also take part in friendly matches and regional tournaments, where they engage with learners from other schools in a spirit of healthy competition. Each match follows official chess rules, and all games are decided by checkmate, resignation, or time control — ensuring a clear outcome for every round.
We are proud of the growing interest in chess at our school and the commitment shown by our learners to mastering the game.
